Over the last three days, the ROBLOX community banded together in support of the Philippines disaster relief effort. Your purchases of the Baseball Cap and Carabao Cap – which numbered almost 15,000 in the end – added up to a $3,330.30 donation, which we’ll be sending to UNICEF’s Typhoon Haiyan Emergency Response Fund. This is yet another exciting illustration of the power of ROBLOX’s community — in both the real and virtual worlds. Thanks to everyone who contributed! You all made a difference!

Call of ROBLOXia 5: ROBLOX At War is one of ROBLOX’s most popular games of all time. Prolific scripter litozinnamon is constantly adding to the title, and ROBLOX gamers just can’t seem to get enough. That’s why we were thrilled to hear that litozinnamon has been spending the last six months completely overhauling the game, and will be releasing it soon. What’s changing? A one-word answer would be: everything.

As you likely know, roughly one week ago Typhoon Haiyan struck the Philippines, causing devastation to the country and leaving many people in need of aid. We have decided to join the relief cause by offering two Philippines-themed hats in the catalog and donating the proceeds to UNICEF’s Typhoon Haiyan Emergency Response Fund. The Baseball Cap (15 ROBUX) and the Carabao Cap (100 ROBUX) will both be on sale through the morning of Monday, November 18th, and we will be donating $.10 for each Baseball Cap sold and $.65 for each Carabao Cap sold. This is your opportunity to support the Philippines relief effort and show that you provided support in ROBLOX.

You’ve heard of Black Friday – you know, that late-November day when everyone buys everything. But have you heard of Bright Friday? Probably not – because we just invented it! Starting tomorrow, November 15th, we’re kicking off our Bright Friday sale, and it promises a vast selection of light and brightly colored virtual goods throughout the entire weekend.
We’ll be launching into Bright Friday early tomorrow morning with a brand-new limited item. We have a lot more than that in the works, of course: at least 10 new items, eight user-created retextures of existing items, a smattering of limiteds, and discounts on a bunch of items that just happen to be in the “bright” theme. You can see some of the items that’ll be involved in the sale – a neon shaggy and a blindingly bright version of Mr. Tentacles, to name a couple – by looking closely at the above image. (Click on it to expand it.) Aside from that, you’ll have to keep your eyes on the catalog to see what drops when.

There’s a ton of emergent social gaming happening on ROBLOX every day, and my ongoing quest to partake in all of it continues! Group Dynamic stories have already led me into many interesting situations, but I’ve been keeping a close eye on your feedback and decided on a different approach for this edition: groups that are smaller and lesser known (i.e. less than 1,000 members). It didn’t take me long to discover that even small-membership groups are doing awesome and amazing things. Read on to re-live some of my experiences with the Crystal Empire, the Elite Personal Server Builders, and the Sword Trainers of ROBLOX.
Since I started this series, I’ve talked with many users about raids and ongoing wars between clans. I knew this time around I wanted to participate. So when I saw The Crystal Empire shout that their base was being raided, I didn’t hesitate. This experience was no joke.

It’s easy to get caught up in the “now” on ROBLOX. Every few days, there’s a new crop of popular and successful games – though only some have enough gameplay depth to maintain their chart-topping positions. But when you step back and look at ROBLOX from 30,000 feet and over the course of months rather than days, you start to see the trends and sweeping shifts of opinion. And at that point, you can draw conclusions about what’s fueling the fire – what’s working for developers and their players.
This is particularly fun in relation to game monetization, especially after the advent of the Developer’s Exchange. Now, being smart about monetizing your game can lead to real-world earnings – currently, if you accumulate 100,000 ROBUX, you can cash out for $100 U.S. dollars.
