Here at ROBLOX, we love our jobs. Starting as a team of two people in 2005, ROBLOX has since become a haven of web developers, engineers, infrastructure experts, and more, from all walks of life. Since the school season is just beginning, we thought we’d talk to some of those people and have them share their stories, tips and experiences with you.
On July 28, 2012, user Yaman100 did something thousands of users do without a second thought every day: put a new t-shirt on his ROBLOX character. Only, this time it was special. It set off a bug, with approximately one-in-four-billion chances of occurring, that would end up breaking any ROBLOX page on which Yaman100′s character thumbnail appeared.

Gone are the days of slow loading, fumbling to click microscopic links and straining to read undersized text. Here are the days of staying up to date on the latest ROBLOX news, as soon as it’s announced, and joining the discussion from wherever you may be!

Every week, we’re busy telling the stories behind our platform, our technology, and our place in the gaming and technology industries. A long time in the making, the new ROBLOX Catalog was launched for all users at the beginning of the week. It adds a wealth of new sorting, filtering and searching functions to help you navigate the millions of user creations and find just the right gear for your ROBLOX character. Our blog post offers some background on the new interface and functions, so check it out and learn how you can shop more efficiently than ever.
Though ROBLOX makes publishing a game easy, getting people to play it is another matter entirely. A myriad of factors will determine the popularity of your game, and we’re here to share a few of the quickest and most effective to attract players. Enjoy.
Make a Great ThumbnailEach ROBLOX game on the Games page has a thumbnail. This is your chance to make a first impression, so choose a picture that’s colorful, well framed and aesthetically pleasing. You can choose to frame your thumbnail shot in ROBLOX Studio — remember, the camera’s location when you save your game is going to be where the thumbnail shot is taken, so take a few pictures and choose your favorite one. You can also manually upload a thumbnail image in the “Place Configuration” page for 20 Robux.

Directors! ROBLOX is hosting a game trailer video contest. For the next 10 days, uploading a video trailer to your game page is 50% off. Furthermore, all new trailers added to ROBLOX games in the next 10 days will automatically be entered into a contest. We will reward the creators of the top five new trailers with fabulous virtual trophies and 20,000 ROBUX each.
As you may remember, we first added the ability for a ROBLOX game to have a 30-second video trailer back in April. And, because we think this feature is awesome, we’re actively promoting its use.

At ROBLOX, we continue to take notice of those who are tackling new and different challenges within our platform. On this edition of “Spotlight”, we’re checking out Jake Evans’ Fort Borealis, an ambitious, popular and innovative shooter.
Jake Evans spent a lot of his time on ROBLOX forums when he first started out–he undertook small projects here and there, mostly minor tasks for the forum community. He didn’t know that he’d eventually end up working as the lead scripter for one of ROBLOX’s most popular titles, Fort Borealis.
