Lights On! Win a Contest While You Test Dynamic Lighting

Block Town with Dynamic LightingFor the last five or so days, we’ve had dynamic lighting enabled on a small test environment. Today, we moved the feature over to the more robust GameTest1 environment so more builders can experiment with it simultaneously. While it’s news enough that you can play with dynamic lighting today, we’ve also launched a dynamic lighting video contest to let you future masters of light and darkness show your prowess!

The contest

You have until Thursday, April 25th at 11:59 p.m. PT to create something incredible using dynamic lighting, capture 30 to 60 seconds of footage of it, and submit your video. You can either build something brand new for the express purpose of showing off the beauty of dynamic lighting, or modify one of your existing places/games to illustrate the before-and-after results. Regardless of the avenue you pursue, the content you submit must be your own. You can submit your entry and see the complete instructions/timeline here.

Presenting The Winners of the Egg and Face Design Contests

A few weeks ago we launched several fan art contests, where we asked our artistically inclined users to submit egg textures for the upcoming and wildly popular ROBLOX Egg Hunt, and users to create their own ROBLOX faces–the prize being a 2,500 Robux payday. We received a ton of creative submissions, and have officially chosen winners in both categories.

Winners: ROBLOX Egg Retexture Contest

We received over a thousand entries, and there were way too many cool designs to pick just two winning eggs. So we chose three regular eggs, and three Fabrege eggs to add to our 2013 ROBLOX Egg Hunt. We’ll be posting info about the 2013 ROBLOX Egg Hunt early next week, so keep your eyes peeled.

Calling All Artists! Three Design Contests Are Up and Running

PaintIf you’re the type of person who loves creating things and sharing them with the world, you’re in the right place – that spirit is what fuels ROBLOX. We recognize that not everyone is an aspiring builder or game designer, though, and we just launched three contests that give users who best express themselves through art and design a chance to make a significant mark on ROBLOX.

1. Fan Art Contest (now through March 10th)

ROBLOX Studio Splash Screen Contest: The Winners

We were blown away. Not just by the sheer amount of entries we received for our ROBLOX Studio splash screen contest (over 3,000!), but by the amount of ingenuity, creativity, and talent on display in each of the entries. We had originally postulated that we’d be choosing five winners–but we just couldn’t distill that much awesome into five winning slots. So we’ve expanded our circle to include 10 winners, each of whom will receive the prize of 20,000 Robux.

We’ll also be featuring one of the 10 winning splash screens each week moving forward to give you 10 awesome weeks of custom ROBLOX Studio loading screens. After those 10 weeks are up, we’re going to show more of the entries on a regular basis in an effort to ensure that the Studio splash screen is always a design submitted by one of our users. Believe us, you guys sent more than enough to last, ahem, a few years.
