Vote for the Final ROBLOX Hall of Fame 2013 Winners

Hall of Fame 2013We’ve already announced a whopping 16 Hall of Fame 2013 winners, but there’s so much fantastic stuff being built on ROBLOX that we’re going to announce another six winners (in six new categories) at the Virtual BLOXcon later this month. The Hall of Fame 2013 will ultimately span four BLOXcons and 20+ awards, making it our biggest celebration of your work yet — and a veritable who’s-who of building and game development.

Best of all, each of the final six categories will be decided by you. We came up with a list nominees; now it’s your turn to cast your vote with this quick survey!

Nine Days Remain to Enter the Virtual BLOXcon Game Contest

Virtual BLOXcon LogoLast week, we kicked off a Virtual BLOXcon Game Contest, giving you the opportunity to have your BLOXcon-themed game featured at the big event on Saturday, September 21st. We know making a game and building a place are both time-consuming processes, so take this as a friendly reminder that the contest deadline is nine days away (technically, Sunday, September 8th at 11:59 p.m. PT).

In case you missed the news last week, here’s how the contest works.

Your Creation Could Be Featured at the Virtual BLOXcon on 9/21

Virtual BLOXcon LogoAs you probably know by now, we’re hosting a Virtual BLOXcon less than one month from today. Roughly 0.1% of ROBLOX’s population could actually attend one of this summer’s in-person BLOXcons, so this online event will give everyone a chance to experience some of the magic. The following is a tentative overview of what the Virtual BLOXcon will offer — including some of your creations.

Live streaming video from ROBLOX HQ. We’ll do live Q&A sessions, give away additional awards, talk about new ROBLOX product development, stream gameplay, and more. Think of it like the Main Stage Presentation we held at each BLOXcon, but a little more laid back and broken into separate segments.

BLOXcon Hackathon Winners Share Tips and Experiences

hackathonNow that all three BLOXcons have wrapped (and we’re hard at work creating our Virtual BLOXcon for September, in case you were wondering), we thought we’d take some time to talk with two top Hackathon performers (NickPatella and Ethancomputermad) to seek out tips for future participants. Their insight can help you get a better understanding of the type of skills it takes to win such a difficult and competitive building and scripting challenge.

To clarify, the ROBLOX Hackathon is a series of building and scripting challenges, where each participant is given something to create, and a time frame to create it. The builder must complete their creation (whether that’s a gun with a reloadable clip, a pig that oinks, or a bubble machine) before time runs out, or get as far along as possible. By the end, our panel of ROBLOX engineers scores each creation based on ingenuity, beauty, and functionality. There are a lot of types of contests we could run at BLOXcon, but the Hackathon blends many of our fundamental ideals, including the spirit and passion of creation and the rush of friendly competition.

BLOXcon New York City in Pictures

bloxconNYBLOXcon New York City is winding down as I write, but Alan and I spent a healthy portion of the day running around and documenting it via photographs and video as best as we could. After all, only 1,000 lucky ROBLOXians could actually attend the event in person, and we want the whole community to know what it was like to be here, on a boat, filled with fighter jets (seriously, the event was at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum), for BLOXcon NYC. Check out the following image gallery for a taste.
