As you probably know by now, we’re hosting a Virtual BLOXcon less than one month from today. Roughly 0.1% of ROBLOX’s population could actually attend one of this summer’s in-person BLOXcons, so this online event will give everyone a chance to experience some of the magic. The following is a tentative overview of what the Virtual BLOXcon will offer — including some of your creations.
Live streaming video from ROBLOX HQ. We’ll do live Q&A sessions, give away additional awards, talk about new ROBLOX product development, stream gameplay, and more. Think of it like the Main Stage Presentation we held at each BLOXcon, but a little more laid back and broken into separate segments.
Your BLOXcon games and levels. We just launched a Virtual BLOXcon contest, in which you — the builders and developers — can create and submit your best BLOXcon-themed levels and games. We’ll feature between five and 10 winning creations as part of the Virtual BLOXcon, play them with you throughout the day, and possibly visit them via the live stream. Winners will also receive an exclusive virtual item.
You can let your imagination run wild — just tie BLOXcon into your entry. For example, defend BLOXcon from the zombie admins, sword fight on the Intrepid, hunt and collect the BLOXcon fedoras, or capture the BLOXcon venue. To enter, record a short video (maximum 60 seconds) of your place or game and submit it by Sunday, September 8th at 11:59 p.m. PT. Please include [BLOXcon] in your video’s title. You can work in groups of up to three. Voting starts on September 3rd and will factor into the final results. To get started, see the contest submission page.
Recorded footage from BLOXcon Chicago, London and New York City. We had cameras rolling all day at each BLOXcon, and we’ll be condensing the hours of footage into bite-sized pieces that will let you live – or relive – the experience. Expect community interviews, pieces of the Main Stage Presentation, and expanded recaps of what happened in each city!
We’re also looking into offering a downloadable demo, which would let you experiment with with currently-in-development new articulated physics engine!
Admittance to the event itself will be free of charge. We’ll have exclusive Virtual BLOXcon items on sale in the catalog and a new online store with real-world merchandise.
All featured content will be contained on a central webpage — this will be the Virtual BLOXcon “hub” and will be announced as we get closer to the event. For those of you on the other side of the world, we will be starting in the morning, so you’ll be able to experience at least some of the live content.
Save the date: Saturday, September 21st.
