Every week, we’re busy telling the stories behind our platform, our technology, and our place in the gaming and technology industries. For those of you who catch up with ROBLOX over the weekend, the Weekly ROBLOX Roundup collects the best stuff to hit our various avenues of publication in the last week. This time: the ROBLOX’s new mobile site, our primer for the beginning ROBLOX game developer, our summer interns’ projects and experiences, part two of the seven-day trading system challenge, and some interesting thoughts on what you’d do with a million Robux.
ROBLOX. Anywhere. Everywhere.
This week, our capable and nimble Web Team launched version one of ROBLOX’s mobile website. You can test it now at m.roblox.com, and let us know what you think on our Mobile forum. We’re happy to see that users are enjoying the mobile site, wherever they may be, on a lot of devices, from iPhone and iPod Touch to Android and Blackberry to Nintendo 3DS. Check out the full story to see what you can do on the mobile site today, and what we plan to add in the future.
Game development: basics before epics
It’s quite difficult to approach game development with manageable goals in mind. After all, creating an epic RPG, the next-best first-person shooter or inventing a new genre sounds much more glamorous. In this article, we offer tips for the beginning ROBLOX developer: get comfortable with ROBLOX Studio, learn some scripting by copying, keep it simple, use your resources and more. Get a feel for the basics before attempting the epic.
Students wrap up projects and reflect on summer at ROBLOX
Every summer, ROBLOX invites several students to join us for a few months of real-world development experience. This year, our summer guests worked on projects from LEGO® Hero Factory: Breakout to our new mobile site, and took away some valuable experience working in a start-up environment where self-organization is key. Check out this blog post for insight into what it’s like to work at ROBLOX. Could you be a future ROBLOX intern?
Trading for profit and fun, part 2
ROBLOX Creative Director John Shedletsky put our brand-new trading system to the test in a week-long attempt to go from two $10 ROBLOX cards to Robux riches. Part one of this story documented the first two days of trading and offered a bunch of tips for going from nothing to something. Part two explores the following five days of trading, with additional, pro-level tips for becoming an expert trader. If you’re looking to add value to your ROBLOX account, these are must-read posts.
Bits
- This week’s gear release theme was “admin’s picks.” One of said picks was the over-the-top but undeniably cool Bear Mine Gun. You strategically place two “bear mines” and remotely trigger them to come together at a high velocity for an explosive bear hug, instantly killing anyone caught in the middle. How can you say no to that?
- ROBLOX’s John Shedletsky and Miguel Ortiz have been hard at work on a new ROBLOX commercial. You may have already seen it on ROBLOX’s home page, but, if not, check it out here:
Last week, we asked ROBLOX’s Facebook fans, “What would you do with a million Robux?” We had more than 1,700 people chime in after 24 hours, and saw some interesting trends. For instance, many of you are fiscally responsible. One theme that permeated the discussion was spend-a-little, save-a-lot. There’s also a generosity among ROBLOX users — many would spend some on themselves, but donate the rest of it to other deserving users and groups. Warms my heart.
Hats n’ gear.
It’s really all about them hats n’ gear.
You know what I’m sayin’?
Them hats n’ gear.
Everyone knows what you’re talking about when you’re talking about them hats n’ gear.
