Aperson1890 Proves Building is Constructive at Maker Faire

aperson1890 Building at Maker FaireLooking back, there are a lot of Maker Faire stories to tell. I talked with independent game developers about the potential of distributing a game on ROBLOX. I talked with parents who were looking to guide the play habits of their children down productive paths. I talked with former ROBLOX builders who, after witnessing dynamic lighting and other modern features, headed home to revive their dormant accounts. I saw a maker wearing a 3D-printer backpack buy a ROBLOX fedora before striking a pose for me (I was photographing the booth). But probably the most memorable story was that of aperson1890, a longtime ROBLOX builder, 2012 RGC 2012 Hackathon winner, and up-and-coming programmer who was in the booth all weekend.

It was hard not to be intrigued by aperson1890. On Saturday morning, he set up shop at a laptop on the build table. He pulled out a file folder of sketches and notes, thoughts and ideas. He turned on some K-pop via YouTube. He started building, his ultra-patient parents spectating from the booth’s fringe.

Photo Gallery: Live from Maker Faire Bay Area 2013

Update, 10 p.m.: Hello from Maker Faire 2013! This is Alan with updates straight from ROBLOX’s booth. Andrew did a great job capturing our booth and the interactions between our staff and builders earlier in the day, so I decided, as the sun began to set on day one of Maker Faire, to take a step outside and shoot some of the amazing creations and props scattered throughout the grounds. Check out what I saw below!

This giraffe was straight out of steampunk lore.

Build and Battle with the ROBLOX Team This Weekend at Maker Faire

ROBLOX at Maker Faire Bay Area 2013

The time is nigh! This weekend – the 18th and 19th of May, to be exact – the entire ROBLOX team will be descending upon the San Mateo County Event Center for one of the Bay Area’s biggest events of the year: Maker Faire Bay Area. The Maker Faire figures to draw more than 100,000 attendees and hundreds of Makers — ROBLOX builders included. We will be showcasing the digital side of Maker culture right in the center of the Expo Hall and we’d love for you to join us at Booth 338.

Make the ROBLOX Presence Known at Maker Faire 2013

Maker Faire Bay Area 2013 BadgeThere’s been a lot of talk about BLOXcon – our now-sold-out summer events in Chicago, London and New York City – but we’re not forgetting our hometown crowd. If you reside along the U.S. West Coast (or you have a private jet, in which case we’d love to take a ride), you have an opportunity to experience some of the excitement of BLOXcon and hang out with us in person for a day at Maker Faire Bay Area 2013, coming up in just over two weeks.

Maker Faire Bay Area 2013 takes place on Saturday, May 18th and Sunday, May 19th at the San Mateo County Events Center in San Mateo, CA. We’re looking for as many ROBLOX builders as possible to join us throughout the weekend and make the ROBLOX presence known! Why spend some time at our booth?

Be Part of the ROBLOX Maker Faire Experience!

Maker Faire Bay Area 2013 BadgeOne of the best things about being headquartered in San Mateo, California, is we’re a hop, skip and a jump from the grounds of an incredible, annual West Coast event: Maker Faire Bay Area. For the second year in a row, ROBLOX will be showcasing the digital side of “maker” culture at the event. It takes place on May 18th and 19th at the San Mateo County Events Center.

This year, our space will be four times the size of our presence in 2012, giving you more room to talk with ROBLOX staff, meet other ROBLOXians, playtest new product development, and enjoy playing and building. We’re also inviting ROBLOX builders to our booth to showcase and discuss creations that illustrate the limitless possibilities of ROBLOX. If you have built something great (a scripted or mechanical model, a beautiful world or an adventurous game), would be comfortable presenting and discussing it in front of other Maker Faire attendees, and are attending Maker Faire, please fill out this form to let us know by April 21st, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. PT. We’ll choose a selection of submissions and work with you to become your own exhibitor at the event!

ROBLOX Making an Appearance at Maker Faire Bay Area 2012

Maker Faire Bay Area logoMaker Faire Bay Area 2012 is this weekend – May 19th and 20th at the San Mateo County Event Center – and promises attendees the chance to learn about Arduino and 3D printing, interact with robots, a life-size electric giraffe and other DIY creations, and hang out with the ROBLOX team, among much more. If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, we encourage you to buy a ticket, stop by our booth to say “hi” and check out the hundreds of inventions, speakers and events.

The Maker Faire is a two-day, family-friendly exhibition of invention, creativity and resourcefulness, and a celebration of the Maker movement. We’ll be located in the Expo Hall at booth 57 – right across from the main stage area. We’re excited to meet some of our users, show ROBLOX demos and perhaps chat with you about opportunities at our company.
