After a busy month and a half, the ROBLOX team has successfully taken BLOXcon around the world. Another completed BLOXcon also means another list of BLOXY, Hall of Fame, and Hackathon winners. Though this takes us closer to the end of our annual awards, there is more to come! The very final bunch of winners will be announced at the final BLOXcon of 2013, which takes place everywhere the internet exists on September 21st, 2013. For now, read on to see the creative minds that received awards at BLOXcon New York City!

If you’ve been keeping up with the blog, you know that we ran a Film Festival last Spring, and we received almost 500 entries in five categories: Building Showcase, Commercial, City-Themed, Short Film/Machinima, and Trailer. Right on the heels of our second sold-out BLOXcon in London, we’ve got some more winners to announce in various forms–more BLOXY Awards, more ROBLOX Hall of Fame winners, and, of course, winners of our Hackathon in London! Let’s start with BLOXY Award winners (and stay tuned for more; we’ll be announcing the remaining winners shortly after BLOXcon NYC).

Last weekend at BLOXcon Chicago, we announced the winners of a bunch of prestigious awards. BLOXY Awards go to ROBLOX filmmakers, who crafted films for five unique categories in the ROBLOX Film Festival. The Hall of Fame Awards were designed to highlight some of the best community-created content of the last year. Finally, this year’s ROBLOX Hackathon was the most challenging yet, offering scripting and building challenges that pushed the knowledge boundaries of our cunning participants. In this article, we’ll be detailing the winners of each of these events, though keep in mind that there will be more–different winners will be revealed at each respective BLOXcon, so stay tuned to the blog for more winners after each remaining location. All winners will receive their virtual prizes in the near future.

Preview the 2013 BLOXY Awards

With the excitement of the submission and voting periods now in the books, we have selected — with public opinion as a significant factor — the nominees for each category of the ROBLOX International Film Festival. As promised, we will be announcing the actual winners for each category at the upcoming BLOXcon Chicago, London and New York City. Winners will have their films screened in front of a live BLOXcon audience and highlighted on the ROBLOX YouTube channel, and receive a coveted BLOXY Award!

We don’t want to kill the suspense and anticipation of the actual announcements, so we’re not going to show the nominees for every category. However, we do have a bundle of potential winners for the popular machinima/short film and trailer categories to share. All nominees are listed in a random order. Grab a snack and settle in for some great works of ROBLOX cinema!

Last Weekend to Submit Your Film Fest and Poster Contest Entries

Attention, directors and designers of ROBLOXia: we have arrived at the final weekend for submitting entries to the ROBLOX International Film Festival and the BLOXcon Poster Contest! Both contests close on Monday, June 3rd at 11:59 p.m. PT – if you’re planning to enter, now is the time to get creating. Polish what you’ve already started, or set aside some time to start something from scratch. It’s not too late.

The Film Festival has been open to submissions for just under a month. While we’re seeking films within five categories, we have still received very few speed-building showcases and city-themed films. If you want to get noticed, go for one of those categories.

Tips for Submitting a Successful Film Fest Entry

The submission phase of the ROBLOX International Film Festival is in full swing! During the first two weeks, ROBLOX builders have submitted more than 200 films, and many of them are undoubtedly capable of earning a coveted BLOXY Award. But don’t let that dissuade you; there are still two more weeks to submit and the weekend is imminent. It’s a perfect time to get started on your own film.

Those of you who didn’t swoop in and enter right away actually have an advantage: you can see what categories are stacked with competition and what categories remain thin. For instance, we’ve received a lot of ROBLOX machinima and commercials, but a relatively small number of city-specific films and physics/building showcases. If you want to improve your odds of getting noticed, produce a film that falls under a category with fewer entries. Create a city-specific film that shows the essence of Chicago, London or New York City within ROBLOX. Capture footage of yourself building something cool and intricate, then speed up the footage so we can see the whole process.

The ROBLOX Film Festival Is Now Accepting Submissions!

Winning entries will receive not only a prestigious BLOXY Award, but a live screening on the main stage at one of this summer’s BLOXcons and a highly visible spot on the ROBLOX YouTube channel!
