Rendering Changes and Improved Performance Are Coming Soon

Next week, we’ll be releasing new rendering code that will boost performance by up to 3X, enabling more people to play games that have tens of thousands of parts. Part of the performance boost will stem from turning off bevels, which round the corners of bricks. The rest will come from featherweight parts and fast parts technology applying to ROBLOX parts of all shapes, sizes and materials, and a dynamic quality adjustment sensor that automatically adjusts material quality based on your hardware. The following video demonstrates the performance differences in a place that has over a hundred thousand parts.

There’s been a buzz within the game industry — ROBLOX HQ included — over the past few days’ lead-up to Game Developers Conference 2013, which kicked off today in San Francisco. The self-proclaimed largest and longest-running professionals-only game industry event brings together programmers, artists, producers, game designers, audio professionals, business decision-makers and others involved in game development to exchange ideas and shape the future of the industry.

ROBLOX will be manning a booth at GDC 2013 from Wednesday through Friday. Our primary focus will be meeting potential candidates to join the ROBLOX team, but we’ll also be there to talk technology and demonstrate cross-platform gameplay with our internally developed ROBLOX Battle game running on laptops and iPads. We’d love to have you stop by and learn more about us over a rousing round of frantic fragging and physically simulated destruction. Presenting The Winners of the Egg and Face Design Contests

A few weeks ago we launched several fan art contests, where we asked our artistically inclined users to submit egg textures for the upcoming and wildly popular ROBLOX Egg Hunt, and users to create their own ROBLOX faces–the prize being a 2,500 Robux payday. We received a ton of creative submissions, and have officially chosen winners in both categories.

We received over a thousand entries, and there were way too many cool designs to pick just two winning eggs. So we chose three regular eggs, and three Fabrege eggs to add to our 2013 ROBLOX Egg Hunt. We’ll be posting info about the 2013 ROBLOX Egg Hunt early next week, so keep your eyes peeled.

Beta Testing Now: Own and Trade Multiple Copies of Limited Items

In the past year, we’ve introduced and enhanced our trading system, added affiliate gear sales and game passes, and created a group treasury, among other things.
