ROBLOX is an open-ended sandbox game and ultimately, every builder defines their own “winning” experience. There is no “victory” screen, but there are certain (and sometimes simple!) things you can do to really broaden your ROBLOX experience. Check out this list of five ways to “win” at ROBLOX.

Build. Like, a lot. 

This is easily the most valuable piece of advice we can give you. Building is the core of participation on ROBLOX, and the more you build, the better you get at it. Don’t build games or places that you think others want to see, either. Build whatever comes to mind, however crazy or strange that idea might be. That’s one of the best parts of ROBLOX–you are not limited by our platform; you’re limited only by the amount of skill you develop utilizing it. Don’t be intimidated by other creations. Let them inspire you instead.

Get published on the ROBLOX blog!

Last week, we announced an opportunity for you to have your writing published front and center on the ROBLOX blog. We’re not accepting just anything, though; right now, we’re keeping a keen eye out for technical articles about specific aspects of ROBLOX building in which the author has demonstrated expertise. We’ve received more than 400 pitches, so far, and we’ll be reviewing every last one of them in the coming week. While we haven’t started reaching out to anyone yet, I can say there are a number of great ideas and I’m very excited about the quality and robustness of articles we could be publishing in conjunction with you, the ROBLOX community. Creativity and sharing are two qualities that fuel ROBLOX, and it’s in that spirit that we created Crossfire, a series where we chat with ROBLOX game developers about their game design choices. For our second outing, we interviewed Clonetrooper1019 and Ozzypig to compare and contrast design decisions made in their very similar games: The Stalker and Juggernaut, respectively. Both games are asymmetric–meaning they require players to work in teams to take down one super-powered individual.

Thanks for doing this guys. Let’s start with the very basics. I was gathering stats, and both Juggernaut and Stalker have over 600,000 visits. What’d you do to make your game take off?

For the last five or so days, we’ve had dynamic lighting enabled on a small test environment. Today, we moved the feature over to the more robust GameTest1 environment so more builders can experiment with it simultaneously. While it’s news enough that you can play with dynamic lighting today, we’ve also launched a dynamic lighting video contest to let you future masters of light and darkness show your prowess!

The contest

You have until Thursday, April 25th at 11:59 p.m. PT to create something incredible using dynamic lighting, capture 30 to 60 seconds of footage of it, and submit your video. You can either build something brand new for the express purpose of showing off the beauty of dynamic lighting, or modify one of your existing places/games to illustrate the before-and-after results. Regardless of the avenue you pursue, the content you submit must be your own. You can submit your entry and see the complete instructions/timeline here.

We’ve been upping the interaction between ourselves and our readers by cultivating articles that encourage collaboration and discussion. We’re pushing that envelope even further with a new, soon-to-be-launched series, where ROBLOX users have the chance to write bylined articles for the blog!

With our Spotlight articles, we focus on users who have built amazing places and games. Our newly-formed Crossfire series gives successful ROBLOX game developers a chance talk about the design and structure of their respective games (we’ve got an exciting edition coming in the near future). This new series will be written by ROBLOX users, and each entry will describe the process of developing a very specific and/or technical aspect of a game, place or model. Starting today, you can purchase and trade multiple copies of the same limited item. We’ve made this change to simplify our economy while simultaneously expanding it–in particular, it offers you much more flexibility when trading within the ROBLOX economy. Before we go into any more detail, keep this in mind: this doesn’t mean you can purchase multiple limited items from us, but you can purchase and trade multiple copies of the same item from other users. 

We recognize that “item hoarding” is a talking-point among the community, though we don’t think this should be cause for concern. If you’re planning on going out and blowing 100,000 Robux on 100 copies of the same hat, we recommend rethinking that strategy. There’d be no value in it–the market mechanics of supply and demand would make it difficult to resell those hats at a profit.
