Responding to User Feedback, V5

ROBLOX LaptopsEver since we made the request for your ROBLOX “Top Three,” we’ve been combing through the feedback and responding to your most insightful comments and pertinent questions. This week, John Shedletsky, ROBLOX’s Creative Director and Content Lead, elaborates on a variety of topics, including additional sound capabilities, leveling up, GUI development and ROBLOX for 13+ users. Plus, a short tutorial on CFraming. For previous entries in this series, click here.

Sound

SuperSy: Add more sound choices to ROBLOX instead of picking them out of gear. Like the sound of a river, or the sound a fire crackling. Some advanced players can modify the tunes of gears and make this happen. For others, it would be great to have them readily available.

Responding to User Feedback, V4

ROBLOX Player in ThoughtEver since we made the request for your ROBLOX “Top Three,” we’ve been combing through the feedback and responding to your most insightful comments and pertinent questions. This week, John Shedletsky, ROBLOX’s Creative Director and Content Lead, elaborates on a variety of topics, including non-player character (NPC) functionality, scripting tutorials and environments, character “outfits,” particle effects and more.

madscientist42: More NPC functionality – walking destination, backpack, target, alliance – would allow games to always have enough players for a specific objective and/or make RPGs a whole lot more fun. (For example, instead of walking to a NPC that stands still, perhaps the NPC journeys with you.)

Join ROBLOX for a Network Performance Playtest Today at 4:30 PST

We at ROBLOX ultimately want all of our users to be able to create anything they imagine: everything from fast, competitive games to massive, detailed structures, and have them all run silky-smooth. As part of this grand vision, the ROBLOX Content Team recreated a classic level, Longest Yard (DM17), from a classic game, Quake 3. It’s a one-to-one copy, built in the ROBLOX engine. We’re going to use it to compare ROBLOX’s in-game performance with that of the tested-and-true Quake Live. If you aren’t familiar with Quake, it’s a first-person shooter series characterized by its fast pace, capacity for acrobatic maneuvers, and best-in-class networked performance.

User Feedback v3

ROBLOX Office ConferenceEver since we made the request for your ROBLOX “Top Three,” we’ve been combing through the feedback and responding to your most insightful comments and questions. This week, John Shedletsky, ROBLOX’s Creative Director and Content Lead, elaborates on a variety of topics, including camera properties, aerodynamics, new terrain, an “animation studio” and more. Check out v1 and v2 for more.

ErrorlessRBLX: Aerodynamics – I want to be able to build an airplane using certain shaped bricks, and when I apply force to it, the wings generate thrust. The more forward force, the greater the thrust (depending on wing types).

KRE-O Battleship ShowdownROBLOX has teamed up with Hasbro to bring you two new games, KRE-O BATTLESHIP Showdown and KRE-O BATTLESHIP Scavenger Hunt, both based on the KRE-O BATTLESHIP playsets. While the BATTLESHIP movie releases in theatres on May 18th, the KRE-O BATTLESHIP playsets and ROBLOX games are available now.

KRE-O BATTLESHIP Showdown

You’re Admiral Shane or Lieutenant Hopper. You and your teammates are aboard the USS Missouri. It’s your duty to man the ship’s turrets and fend off legions of alien invaders until a squad of marines can destroy the alien base. It’s not easy, so you’ll need to take advantage of all the gattling guns and missile turrets your ship has to offer.

User Feedback v2

lazerThis week in our user feedback post, we have more great requests from ROBLOX players that we want to highlight and discuss.  As a reminder, we asked users for their top three ROBLOX feature requests a few weeks ago. Each week, we will address player feedback, and how we are prioritizing our development pipeline around your responses. Similar to the User Feedback v1 post, John Shedletsky, ROBLOX’s Creative and Content Lead, has provided his insight to the following user requests in italics.
