Feedback Loop: Particle Effects, Script Editing, Gear Stats and more

Feedback Loop99% of the content available on ROBLOX is created by our passionate community of builders. In Feedback Loop — the spiritual successor to the long running Responding to User Feedback series – we respond to builders’ grand ideas for ROBLOX and questions about the past, present and future.

Trade All the Things! A Guide to the ROBLOX Trading System

Chart IllustrationAbout a week ago, we loosened up the ownership restrictions on limited items to allow users to possess multiple copies of the same item. One of the effects of this change is it is now much much easier to make trades with other players. In the past, if a player wanted to send me a trade, he would have to have items I didn’t already own. For a lot of our power users, this can be really difficult!

Since implementing this feature, I’ve personally seen my number of incoming trade offers triple. A quick look at the database confirms that there are now roughly 55% more trade offers flowing through our system. It’s been about eight months since we published our last guide to the Trading System. What better way to usher in the trading renaissance than to provide some tips and tricks for would-be traders?

What Games and Places Are Earning Robux in April?

In January, we took an extensive look at the games and places that were the most financially successful on ROBLOX. Whether it’s through adding gear to a game, taking advantage of Game Passes or just racking up series visits, there are a lot of opportunities to rake in serious cash. We also take this opportunity to compare numbers from January with the latest stats to analyze the similarities and differences.

ROBLOX: Gaming in the Cloud

Servers

A hot topic among game studios in recent years is the notion of “cloud-based gaming”–a tectonic shift in the infrastructure behind multiplayer online games. Gone are the days of hosting your own server, opening up your firewall, forwarding ports in your router, and sacrificing a goat in order to be able to host your own multiplayer environment.  In a traditional solution, if you wanted to play game with friends on the internet, you’d set up a game server and have your friends connect to it. We decided early on that this was a method we wanted to avoid–encouraging users to set up local hosting often results in a plethora of problems that interfere with stable gameplay.

Responding to User Feedback, V14

Responding to User FeedbackEvery so often, we ask our users to let us know what they’d like to see in ROBLOX, then respond to some of the most insightful comments and pertinent questions. We gathered questions in a totally different way this time; in-game! We’re always in ROBLOX for one reason or another, and users provided us with plenty of questions to answer about a wide range of ROBLOX topcis. This time, John Shedletsky, ROBLOX’s Creative Director, addresses inquiries about spell checking features, a Ghost mode, a donate button, updates about our new lighting system, and much more.

Ever thinking of making a spell checker for the chat feature?

ROBLOX Studio 2013 Fixes and Improvements Coming Soon

SFOTH in ROBLOX Studio 2013One exciting thing about ROBLOX that most people don’t realize right away is it’s not a finished game — it is very much a work in progress. The upside to this is that everyone, both community members and the ROBLOX development team, has a real opportunity to shape the future of ROBLOX. The downside is that since ROBLOX is constantly evolving, it doesn’t stay the same. This can be a source of friction for veteran users who have gotten used to the status quo.

We released ROBLOX Studio 2013 several days ago. One of its key benefits is it runs on a modern, platform-independent framework, meaning we can develop and support one product across the PC and Mac. Ultimately, you will have a more consistent experience, regardless of your platform, and we’ll be able to deliver new features faster.
