Traverse Worlds and Eras with These Five Builds

Cathedral Of Artium by THEvortexModelsEvery time we think we’ve seen all of the greatness ROBLOX builders have to offer, we find places more stunning than anything we previously thought possible. This is a testament to the imagination and progressive nature of our community — as soon as new features launch, builders leverage it to make their creations better. In this gallery, we have places with no real theme other than very high quality.

Weekly ROBLOX Roundup: September 29th, 2013

Weekly ROBLOX Roundup Logo, V2Every week, we’re busy telling the stories behind our community, our technology and our place in the gaming and technology industries. For those of you who catch up with ROBLOX over the weekend, the Weekly ROBLOX Roundup collects the best stuff to hit our various avenues of publication in the last week. This time: you can now upload your own sounds, the price floor on clothing assets, the end of the BLOXcon season, the new outfits feature, Island by Wheatlies and Team Rudimentality, a pair of video reviews, and other bits and pieces. Enjoy.

Seven-day blog recap

Uploadable sounds

The time has arrived! One of the most requested features of all time, the ability to upload your own sound effects and music clips, has gone live on ROBLOX.com. Hundreds of sound effects have already made their way into the database, and many of them have even been made free for the taking by their generous uploaders. For more information on uploading and inserting a sound, see our Wednesday announcement of the feature.

You Can Still Experience Much of the Virtual BLOXcon

Q&A SessionVirtual BLOXcon was a fantastic event. We had tens of thousands of ROBLOXians from around the world drop in to watch our five-hour live broadcast, view recorded footage from each of our summer BLOXcons, and play contest-winning games with ROBLOX staff. We even saw #BLOXcon become a trending topic on Twitter in multiple countries — that’s what roughly 10,000 tweets will do. We poured a lot of effort into presenting the event, but it would have been nothing without your participation and enthusiasm.

While Virtual BLOXcon may be over, it’s not too late to experience everything it offered. We suggest starting with the recording of the livestream; it features two Q&A sessions, product demos, an awards ceremony, gameplay streaming and more.

Virtual BLOXcon Is Live!

Virtual BLOXcon logo 2Virtual BLOXcon is now live! To join the fun, don’t delay; go to ROBLOX.com/bloxcon.

The event consists of three “stages.” There’s the Livestream Stage (roughly 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), where we’re streaming gameplay, Q&A sessions, product demos and awards shows from ROBLOX HQ. The World Tour Stage features content we collected from each of our three in-person BLOXcon events this summer. Then there’s the Game Stage, which is home to seven contest-winning games, a couple fan favorites from the last year, and an articulated physics demo! However you decide to participate in Virtual BLOXcon, you can’t go wrong.

Let large levels faster and on more devices with streaming parts

ROBLOX’s Client Networking Team has tasked itself with an ambitious three-pronged goal: decrease join times into games, allow builders to make more complex places and creations, and offer support for all types of legacy hardware and mobile devices. We are taking a big step forward toward all three goals with a new technology we unveiled last week known as streaming parts. In the most basic sense, this technology allows you to play games while they load and play larger games on limited hardware (e.g., mobile devices) by streaming parts in and out around your character. You can learn more about the technology and, if you’re an existing developer, how you can help us test it by reading Wednesday’s full article.

Let the Countdown to the Virtual BLOXcon Begin!

Virtual BLOXcon is now just one week away! The online event will give everyone in the ROBLOX community a chance to experience our annual fan conventions via a livestream from ROBLOX HQ, recorded BLOXcon footage, and a lineup of great games. On top of that, ROBLOX staff will be playing games and chatting with you all day, so you could very well get to meet us – virtually, at least.

The Games That Raked in Robux This Summer

Games Page ImageOn ROBLOX, content creators stand at a path to success that forks in myriad directions – from traditional building, coding and game development to more niche routes like film-making, character asset creation and advertising. What drives someone to succeed at any one thing is wholly individual, but many are fueled by the social capital and wealth that can stem from a great ROBLOX creation. In this article, we’re going to dive into games and worlds that have earned their creators both fame and riches using three features we’ve launched in the last year.

To start, let’s look at the games that have most effectively monetized players. These are the games that have earned the most Robux off of Game Passes, Affiliate Gear sales, and Paid Access. Making it this high in the rankings requires a blend of the right items at the right prices, and an underlying game that attracts players in the first place. This list dates back to May 1st and is current as of yesterday, September 9th.
