Why has hexagon had so much downtime?
You might be sitting on your computer or phone wondering why the site goes down or games don’t work. Hopefully after all the new infrastructure changes we have made this should no longer happen.
I will explain each incident of downtime here and some info on Hexagon infra :)
Frequent website downtimes
Our site has attracted some who want to destroy it per say and while they aren't able to hurt it directly they can initiate attacks through DDoS which is using many clients to attack our site with nonsense traffic. We've had attacks on our site nearly daily for a month about now totaling 200M requests. CloudFlare is able to handle the bulk of the traffic so the only issues that should occur from now on are small site slowdowns.
Game server outages seen in December
Similarly while we are able to ban exploiters on sight our game server itself was vulnerable to attacks using the DDoS method. There isn't a super easy solution to floods that aren't http based like CloudFlare so we had to view our options from other services which took a while. At first we tried a couple services that claimed DDoS protection but weren't able to handle the traffic of around 50GBp/s. We were threatened with termination of our service so we had to look somewhere else. Finally we found a service after a couple days who seemed to provide what we needed now. Hopefully Hexagon can run without these dumb attacks.
Commitment to security in Hexagon
While these are low skill attacks you might be worried about the future of Hexagon's security and your data. We believe there's nothing to be concerned about as we make sure to secure all our websites and it's been reviewed by multiple people. As for data security we take daily backups that are stored offsite. No one has access to the database apart from the owner of Hexagon. We are always on the hunt to ban exploiters and have banned many.
Why you probably shouldn't exploit
The exploits that were advertised in the past to work in Hexagon have been known to contain malware before. A Huge Reminder that anything you run on your computer has full access to any saved passwords and accounts you are signed into. We also have many methods to detect and ban exploiters so it's definitely advisable to not exploit :P
